February Is A Month Dedicated to Love

February is dedicated to love. Valentine's Day is a time where we shower our special someone with love and gifts. Maybe chocolate or flowers, or if you are lucky, diamonds. For some though, just being loved would be enough. They don't need those things. They simply want someone to call thier own.

During that month, five years ago, a beautiful little girl we know as Kennedy was born.

Kennedy was born to a family. Where Kennedy is from, because of an extra chromosome, they have no place in society. Often parents are urged to place them in a orphanage or leave them at the hospital. Thier only hope is finding a family. Someone to call thier own. Kennedy has spent her life in the one and only place she has known, and recently she was taken away from that place. Kennedy has been transferred. She has been sent to a place that is horrifying, scary and reminiscent of the movies we remember where people are screaming & banging thier heads for stimulation. She doesn't deserve it. She deserves to be the princess she was born to be.

People often ask why from a different country and not here. Truthfully, it is a valid question. I understand it, but truthfully, I could care less where she is from. She could be from here or there or anywhere. What matters to me for my Yana is that I love her, my family has accepted her and she needs us. That is the same way for Kennedy. It doesn't matter where she is from, she needs loved, plain and simple. Look at this verse from the bible,
Religion that God our Father Accepts as pure and faultless is this:
to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.
--- James 1:27
I don't see anywhere in that verse that says to make sure they come from your country, because if you fall outside of the lines of your nation you surely will be struck by lightning. Nope, it's not there. I understand that some people are not in the position to adopt, or don't have the money to donate. Prayers are just as good. Kennedy needs them too.

Please help me by spreading the word about Kennedy. Let's pray and hope that she finds her family. Let's help Kennedy to know what February is for. Let's help her to be loved as she deserves and help her forget the loss she has endured. Let's keep her from this.....

Visit Kennedy at http://reecesrainbow.org/kennedy-p7sf

This is what it says about her.

Kennedy

Girl, Born February 2005

2H

Date of Birth: February 2005
Gender: Female
Eyes: Gray
Hair: Dark
Character: sociable

ALREADY TRANSFERRED!

Miss Kennedy is a beautiful girl. She has blonde hair and blue eyes. She has already been transferred to the older child facility, so she needs a family quickly! From her medical records: Down syndrome, significant psychomotor and speech retardation, moderate mental deficiency, congenital heart disease, planovalgus deformity (flat feet), allergic dermatitis (dry cheeks). She will really benefit from having a loving family to encourage her, provide her with the therapies she needs, and help her be all she can be! There is no place for her in her country.

Nothing to share, but my heart is still there....

I was hoping that at this point in time, I would be able to tell you all something. I have nothing to tell any of you, because I know nothing. Zip, zero. Our agency said they would tell us when they hear something of importance. So, we wait and Yana waits. I pray everyday and I check the database often to make sure she is still here on Earth. I hope and pray to God that she is safe and somehow knows that I love her with all my heart. Please continue to pray for Yana's health and safety. Please pray for her and for the funds to continue to come in. Mommy loves you angel!!

Zinnia

Zinnia (5)

Girl, Born May 21, 2008

Zinnia is darling. She is officially diagnosed with hydrocephaly and a detached retina. She is growing OK, but is severely delayed, not really mobile (because she can't see, maybe!). The director does not think she has any potential, but I so hope a loving family will save her and give her the opportunities she so deserves!

I have $60 in my grant fund towards the cost of my adoption!

Ok, I have to admit, I am partial and often seek to find children with Down syndrome. I have two beautiful/typical children that God gave to us, but now that we have adopted, Down syndrome is what I seek to find. No, I am not saying they are better then any child. What I am saying is that a child with Down syndrome just seems to fit for me. I often find myself looking in crowds , when we enter Nationwide Children's Hospital, or just simple everyday life-looking for a person with Down syndrome. There is this kind of connection families of people that have Down syndrome have in common. I also admit that when I visit Reece's Rainbow, the majority of the time, I only look at the children with Ds. It's not that I don't feel as bad for any child on the site, it's just who I am. For some reason, the other day, I did look at the other angels girls page. I found Zinnia. I asked Andrea if she has Ds. She always thought she did too, but the facilitator and the records do not state she has Down syndrome. Well, I truthfully in my heart, feel that she does. My heart aches for this little angel. She deserves a family. I hate seeing the words "severely delayed." Seriously, if you were confined to a crib all day and had no stimulation, how would you be? Zinnia also has a detached retina. Poor baby girl. She just needs a family, love, extra tlc and the correct medical care. God bless you Princess Zinnia!!

As soon as we get the dates, we will then have to arrange child care. Hopefully, not everybody will be busy that week. I cannot wait to see her. Those cheeks are just the cutest!!!

Dreams....

I am not quite sure what we dream sometimes and why. I know that some dreams are vivid and some are not. The reason for some dreams are apparent and well, some are just plain wierd. After Carmen's struggles with surgery and her death, I had some really vivid ones. Specifically, she was laying in her isolette with her pink OSU outfit on. I can remember holding her and touching her little hands. I was asking everyone why they told me she was dead and why they sent me someone elses baby to bury. It was her telling me she is ok. She is safe and happy, fully restored, perfect as she always was. Sadness, but comfort came with that dream. My Carmen is fine. Her worldy body gone, and her spirit is perfect like she is. She is with God.

I have often said that I am totally not opposed to believing there are spirits that mingle with us on a daily basis. I am also very aware and I often speak it, that my worldly body cannot handle seeing these things, so please visit me in my dreams to give me whatever message you need to. If not, what happens when you visit me here will do you nothing, because I would be dead from a stroke. My sister died when she was 16. Tina had CP. She had severe curvature of her spine and had a metal bar placed-six months later she died from complications of pneumonia. I so miss her to this day. When I worked at a nursing home, there was this specific patient that had some form of Leukemia. She told me one day that she was going to hell. Just the thought makes me shutter. I told her as long as she was sorry for whatever she thought she had done, and she tells God that she is sorry, she would be fine. I told her that God loves her and he would forgive her. When I was off, she died. A few days later I had a dream and she was sitting on her bed-perfectly fine. She told me that she wanted me to know that she was ok. I asked her if it was possible to see my sister (this was about 15 years after Tina's death.) In walks my sister-the same age as when she died. She could walk, talk, and she was in my favorite clothes-jeans and a sweatshirt. She jumped on me, gave me the biggest hug, and I woke up. My patient gave me a gift. It was such a relief.

This morning I am not quite sure what this dream I had means. I can speculate or ponder it, but I am sure that it is God. I know he wants me to do what I can to get Yana and advocate for others. In my dream I received this suitcase and I opened it. There were at least four or more children in it. They were alive. These children were faces that I knew from Reece's Rainbow, but for some reason I cannot place them. The only child I could place was AJ (who already has a family-thank God.) Anyways, the first child I found was a girl, not DS, but more like CP. I took her out and I fed her and hugged her. I told her she was going to be safe. I put my arms around her and then put her down on a bed to rest. She cried and begged me to not let her go. I looked down into the suitcase and there was this skinny boy, may or may not have had DS and I was furious. In dreams you can pretty much just flip to somewhere, so I found myself next to someone in inspection. I asked this woman how can she let this happen. How can someone do this to these babies. I was horrified. Then, I took her to the suitcase and showed her these children. There was a picture laying on the floor, and for some reason, I tried to pick A.J. up from the picture and I could not get him. I guess, because he has already found his family. The other children remained in the suitcase and I started taking them all out to safety. Then Ethan was yelling Mom...and I woke up.

I am not quite sure why I have these really wierd, but vivid dreams. I cannot shut my brain off at anytime. In the midst of the daily routine- soccer games, football games, school, diaper changes, supper, down time-my mind is always full of thoughts of Yana and all the Reece's Rainbow children still needing families. We have to do something. If someone is not in the position to donate-PLEASE PRAY! Olga has gone to Heaven...we did not get there in time for her...God called her home. She is now safe, but this should not be happening. It shouldn't happen there or here. No child should die without the love of a family.

Do not be afraid, for I am with you;
I will bring your children from the east and gather you from the west.
I will say to the north, `Give them up!' and to the south, `Do not hold them back.'
Bring my sons from afar and my daughters from the ends of the earth--
--- Isaiah 43: 5-6

Harsh Reality...

We committed to Yana back in February. It has been six months since then. There have been so many roadblocks. First, there was an agency issue. Her region only allows 35 referrals per agency per year. Once that was resolved, our homestudy took awhile to get done. Once we received it, there were errors. We were able to apply for our I600A and have been approved, but not without that dreaded pink letter. When we went to have our first set of documents for our first trip apostilled, our documents were notarized here in our city and we didn't realize they had to be certified. So, we had to have them re-notarized, certified, and then apostilled. All,snafu's, but able to be fixed.
Money has always been an issue for us. We knew about five years ago that things would get tight when we decided to have one of us stay home to take care of our children. Our boys had some health issues that needed a stay at home parent, plus, we just didn't trust anyone with them. Our Anthony cannot talk. The thought of someone doing something to him made me just sick. It makes me sick to think of anyone doing anything to any of my kids, but Anthony could never tell us if they did. So, I work full time and my husband stays at home with our babies. Plus, this year we have had some not so great things happen. Gabby got in an accident with a semi in January. We are still battling them to pay the bills (yes it was the semi's fault.) Our basement flooded. Our fridge died. Our air conditioner went out of our truck...etc.
When we committed to Yana, I knew money would be an issue, but not once have I doubted that God would provide for us and for her. I stepped out in full faith. I told my husband just to be her Dad and I would worry about the money. We have had two yardsales and raised a decent amount of money. Most of it has went to help pay for the beginning stuff. Today I ordered our visas for travel. Yes, we have been able to pay some things by ourselves, but not a great deal of it. I mean, a few dollars here and a few hundred there, but not thousands.
Today while talking to Andrea, she made that harsh reality real. She told me that we couldn't make Yana wait forever. I know this and she is right. At that moment though, I could feel my heart in my throat and I was scared. The thought of losing her made me ill. Afterall, I know God knows how much this child means to us. He knows my heart and the tears I cry all the time for her. A few weeks ago, I applied for Show Hope and then The Abba Fund and Lifesong. All I can do is pray that they come through. I don't want to lose her, but I can't expect her to wait forever. Harsh realities stink. I am going to do my best to think of some other ways to fundraise while we wait on answers from them. We still have some fundraisers on this blog.
If you know my family you know that we have lost our Carmen two years ago after open heart surgery. I am not ready to lose a child again. Yana is ours in my heart and mind. All I can say is that right now I am at my weakest. My heart and soul is open to God and his works. I give myself to him. I am begging our God to show me the way. I firmly believe that he showed us this angel for a reason. She is meant for us...Please God-I need you now.

One Step Forward....

Do you see the tears in those eyes??

It stated that in 3-5 business days our petition for Advanced Processing of Orphan Petition will be forwarded to the visa-issuing post where the adoption interview will take place....We have a case number& the name of the person it is forwarded to. In just a few short days...they will know we are coming for her :) Please God, let them approve us.

Positive News

Her big sister Gabby picked this out for her. Gabby said, "Mom, you have to get this for Yana. It is so cute!!"

This is Yana's angel...she is so loved!!

I received the actual letter today that states we have been approved and our information has been sent to the National Visa Center in NH!!

We are still short on funds for our first trip. We have applied for Show Hope and are waiting on that to see if we get it. Andrea is busy updating our FSP page. I have filled out the pre ap for A Child Waits and I am currently filling out the Abba Fund application. I took out a loan on my 403b on Tuesday. It won't be more than 3k-the amount depends on the market the day it is done. I will let everyone know how much when I get it. We are about 4-4500 away from our first trip-give or take-so the 403b check should help some. I have changed the email address for our Puzzle Pieces and our chances below for the Quilt, DS lite and Tara Bella Jewelry~so they go directly to our FSP. Prayers are always welcome!!

~I600A Appointment~

The door to our daughters future! One of the many :)

This building was huge-not only in size, but in importance!

Looking up I realized how surreal this was. We are moving forward. We are closer to bringing Yana home. We couldn't have cameras inside, but at the hallway on the second floor, there was a huge window at the end by the cafe. I looked out the window and there was a beautiful view. I looked out that window at the sights and I could feel myself holding her. What a beautiful thought :) It was meaningful to me to see all the different nationalities in that building. It was like knowing that Yana's freedom is near. Just like those people, she will soon have the freedom to walk about (or be carried-which I REALLY DON'T MIND.) We then went to the Secretary of States office to have our documents apostilled. In my ignorance, I didn't realize that all the documents had to be certified then apostilled. Since all of Yana's documents were notarized in our city, we had to have them renotarized, then certified and then apostilled. So, we went to the law library to have them notarized-then to the Clerk of Courts office for certification and finally back to the Secretary of States office to have them apostilled. Nothing is easy...they say nothing worth fighting for is, so I guess I should expect it. Yana is so worth it. I wouldn't lie though, I wouldn't mind it being easy.

Buy A Chance-Give Our Angel A Chance!

We have six different pieces of Tara Bella Jewelry to sell chances for. They are $1 a chance or 6 for $5. You can see pictures of her work at www.tarabellajewelry.com. This is our beautiful quilt donated by the Dueck Family. This quilt was specifically made for the love of a Eastern European child. The quilt squares were donated by thier family members from all over the United States. When thier own adoption fell through (she was placed into foster care) they decided it was important for a fellow adoptive family to have it to help raise funds. They also donated these beautiful fleece blankets. The quilt is $5 a chance or 6 for $25. The fleece blankets are $1 a chance or 6 for $5. We are also selling chances for a DS Lite Crimson Red and Black~brand new with the game Brain Age. The system and game are $1 a chance or 6 for $5. Last day for this is August 31st! Please help us to save our girl!! >

Yard Sale for Yana 2-The Results

I want to say thank you for all your support. I often struggle with the glass half empty/glass half full thing. We went into this Yard Sale hoping to make a decent amount, praying for at least the amount we need to travel. Needless to say, we didn't make the $8,000 we needed for the first trip. We did however, raise approximately $1800 this yard sale and topped it off by selling the piano for $400. So that is about $2200!! We also were in the paper and we were on the news. So, we added the bonus of bringing awareness to the plight of our angels. We did not sell nearly enough tickets for the quilt, blankets and DS we had that we were selling chances for. So, I will be adding a post to relist them (of course keeping the tickets already sold.)

Our letters to Ellen & Oprah

(Limited to 1500 words or less...I wish I could have said more! )

I am a fulltime RN& my husband is a stay at home dad.We have five children,2 biological and 3 adopted. Our two youngest have Down syndrome.I am asking for your help.We have committed to adopt a little girl with DS in Eastern Europe. With recent events d/t the woman returning her son to Eastern Europe by himself,we are in a rush to get there before any of the laws change. We don't know what the future will hold.Due to this rush,we do not have the time to raise funds as we had planned& apply for grants.Yana's adoption is going to cost 25-30k.We have sent some money, but are in urgent need of at least $8k to travel by the end of this month. Please help us to save our angel. She has spent most of her life in an orphanage.Children with special needs are sent to institutions at the age of 4 in most countries. Please help us save her before she is sentenced.Feel free to visit our blog at www.savinganangel.blogspot.com God bless you!!

Oprah,

I just wanted to try to do everything I can. For this is not a request for a new home or a new car...this is a request to help me save my daughters life. I am a mother and a wife. My husband and I have five beautiful children and one in heaven. Our three youngest children are adopted-one is Autisitic and two have Down syndrome. Our angel in Heaven has Down syndrome and died at the age of 37 days after open heart surgery. I work full time as an RN and my husband is a stay at home Dad, we felt this was important to meet the needs of our children.
My oldest daughter is 15, a beautiful young woman that gets great grades and is active in sports and school. My 12 year old son is active in football and his games. He is also very smart. Our 9 year old is funny and loves his numbers. He is Autistic. He came to us at the age of four-he couldn't talk and still wore diapers. He is now going into the 3rd grade and is talking and learning. Our 7 year old has Down syndrome. He has a lot of health issues and a behavioral issues related to the pregnancy not his Down syndrome. He is Mommy's buddy and seeks me out when he is sad. Our 4 year old has Down syndrome. He is smart and loving. He has this wonderful disposition that just makes everyone smile. He died on my husbands lap when he was almost 2. He was brought back to us...he later had open heart surgery (with an aicd placement) and is now thriving with us all. He is truly a miracle. Our angel in Heaven...I miss her so. She was born with two different types of DS and congenital heart defects. I spent almost five weeks with her in the PICU...I came back to Ohio to see my oldests confirmation and she died while I was gone. I will never forgive myself for leaving.
Now on to my daughter that needs your help. A few months ago I found her angelic face on www.reecesrainbow.org and I fell in love. After speaking with my family and them reaching an agreement, we committed to her. There have been issues for example, her region only allows for 35 referrals a year, knocking out many agencies to facilitate her adoption. Then finding an agency to do the adoption. Then the lady sent her son back to Eastern Europe by himself on the plane. This situation alone has caused many issues for us adoptive parents. My husband and I have only one income and we do fine...this adoption just requires a lot of planning and fighting...we thought we had time. All of our adoptions have occurred here in the United States...this is the first time for a Russian adoption. Since the incident with the boy being sent back, things have been crazy. We have planned fundraisers and are anxiously awaiting our copy of our homestudy to apply for grants... We received an email that stated they want us to travel at the end of June to see our daughter for the first time and we do not have the money. We need at least $8000 to travel. The entire adoption costs $25 to 30k. Since this rush in travel...we do not know what we are going to do. If we don't go, we have no idea when we will have the chance again if ever.
I love this little girl so much. I know deep in my heart that she needs us. She needs to be saved. Orphanage life is not a great life. She deserves to have a family. Children with special needs are usually transferred to an institution at the age of four, many not making it after the first year. We may not be a perfect family, but we could be the perfect family for our dear Yana. She is only two years old. She has spent most of her time in an orphanage, never having her own blanket or her own doll. Never having her own Mommy to kiss her goodnight or a Daddy to sing to her. We want to give her that. We want to give her a family. Please Oprah, help us. Help us to save our Yana. Feel free to visit our blog at www.savinganangel.blogspot.com and our fsp page at http://www.reecesrainbow.org/sponsorsmith2.html Feel free to call me at 740-454-**** or 740-819-****. Also, please visit Reece's Rainbow and learn the plight of the many homeless children. Also, please tell everyone you know to help our family and the many other families in the middle of thier adoption journey. God bless you!!!!!

Sincerely,
Lisa Smith

God Please Show Me What To Do!

I am asking for prayers and that you ask everyone else you know to pray if they are so inclined. I was told by the agency today that they want us to travel by the end of June. I wasn't prepared for that because we haven't even got our copy of the homestudy yet. Usually, its homestudy, I600A, Dossier, and wait for travel date. I haven't even been able to apply for grants or anything. I hope things will work out and we will be able to get the money and paperwork ready before the end of the month. If not, I am not sure what will happen. I love her so much and I want her home right now, I just don't know if it can be done that fast. God please help us...if we cannot get it done, please allow us to be able to bring our sweet angel home in the near future. Please don't let this be our only chance. Thanks everyone for your continued support!!

All of Our Fundraisers In One Post---:)

I thought I would make a post with all of our fundraisers in one spot. I will be adding to this as we move forward. Just to let everyone know, we sent our very first check in the mail to the adoption agency and our service agreement. Things are moving slow-but forward :)

Our Coffee Fundraiser :)

God is Great! Grace-Hope & Love

By the grace of God, we have the go ahead to move forward with the adoption. The facilitator contacted our agency and stated that it was a go. God has once again repaired my hope. Not that it was gone, because I have deep faith in our Lord, but I will admit I was scared. Our agency stated that this region doesn't usually do special needs adoptions and that the social worker slipped her info to the adoption worker. So to me, that is a miracle. God has once again showed me his love for my children and my desire to help children with Down syndrome. Our agency stated that she is shooting for a goal of Christmas time. I am in tears of joy! What a wonderful gift to share our christmas with our new daughter and our whole family-including Yana. Our angel is finally coming home!
